The Colorado Division of Wildlife is asking the public for information leading to the citation or arrest of the poacher who killed a large buck pronghorn and left it to rot on private land near Granby.

"It appears that the large pronghorn was killed for fun and just left there," said Scott Murdoch, district wildlife manager for Granby. "This was a disgraceful act. This buck could have been a beginning hunter's first animal or a serious hunter's trophy. What a waste."

The pronghorn carcass was reported to wildlife officers by a local homeowner who witnessed the killing on Saturday evening, Oct. 16. Wildlife officers examined the carcass, which was found in the Smith Creek Drainage on Legacy Park Ranch. They believe the poacher was with a group of individuals who were seen in the area and officers hope one will have the courage to come forward.

The Division of Wildlife vigorously investigates poaching and other wildlife crimes. The poacher who illegally killed this pronghorn could face multiple charges, depending on the circumstances, Murdoch said.

Operation Game Thief is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to a citation or arrest in this case. Callers to Operation Game Thief are not required to give their names or appear in court to receive a reward. Anyone with information can contact Operation Game Thief toll-free at 877-COLO-OGT (877-265-6648).
